Azimuth & Distance
Calculate the 3-D Relationship Between Two Points
In our “Steps to Become Wireless” we discuss the path study.
Two of the essential elements in proper system planning are determining
the distance from one point to the next and the orientation for directional
antennas.
Base and repeater stations often use omnidirectional antennas where the orientation (or azimuth) is not as important. Remote locations using directional antennas must be oriented properly towards its connecting base or repeater station, making the azimuth more important if not essential.
SATEL radio modems featuring a LCD display provide the received signal strength dramatically simplifying antenna orientation and placement. Radio modems without this feature require a little math and a compass. To assist with calculating the orientation from a remote location to we provide this calculator.
Enter the selected locations in whole number latitude and longitude. The calculation is relative to whatever “North” direction used to determine the lat and long.
